Melissa Whetstone
Hello! I am Dr. Whetstone, and I am so excited to be teaching first grade at Pelham Ridge. I graduated from Birmingham-Southern College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. I also received a Master of Arts in Elementary Education and a PhD in Early Childhood Education from UAB. This is my third year at PRES but my 24th year in education. During those years, I have taught kindergarten, first grade, and second grade. I love being a teacher, because I believe all children are intelligent and have many different gifts with which to think and express themselves. Through education, students get the privilege of learning how to work together with children of all backgrounds and talents to solve problems creatively. My goal for all my students is to believe in themselves and set a foundation for lifelong learning and improvement. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I am looking forward to a great school year at PRES!
