About Me
Hi there! My name is Savannah Fisher, and this is my sixth year teaching at Pelham Ridge Elementary School. Prior to fifth grade, I have teaching experience in first grade and third grade.

I believe an effective teacher is passionate about learning, strives to understand their students' cultures, and enjoys creating meaningful experiences for students. Learning is an ongoing process and never truly ends, so there is always something more we can add to our knowledge. We also come from many diverse backgrounds with differing perspectives, which allows us to share new insight with one another, if we present the opportunity. With this in mind, I strive to search for growing opportunities in my students as we learn to empower one another to achieve our fullest potential. By creating relatable, cross-curricular, and inquiry based lessons, I hope my students can make personal connections that activate meaningful learning.

A little more about me... I absolutely LOVE teaching in Pelham. I attended Pelham schools (Valley Elementary and Intermediate) from grades K-12, and met my husband, Thomas, through the middle/high school band program. When we are not "at work" some of our hobbies include traveling, cooking/exploring new restaurants, spending time with our sweet cat "Shadow", and all things music or "band" (Thomas plays the trombone in a Mardi Gras Band and I work with The University of Alabama's Million Dollar Band). If you are looking for book suggestions, some of my favorite genres are Mysteries, Thrillers, and Historical Fiction (non-fiction, too!).

Education/Career
I received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with a certificate in Early Childhood Education in May of 2018 from The University of Alabama. After learning more about the Science of Reading through my LETRS training, I decided to pursue a Master's Degree in Curriculum & Instruction, with specializations in Math, Science, and Social Studies at The University of Alabama. During my time at the Capstone, I was a member of The Million Dollar Band Color Guard and Alta Marea Winterguard. Now, I am a choreographer and instructor for programs around the state of Alabama
, and assist in coaching The University of Alabama's Million Dollar Band Color Guard and Alta Marea Winterguard.
